tale of the cub

Posted by avi-laub Apr. 15, 2009 @ 9:25 AM EDT

As I stand at the cross roads. I ponder which road to take. My heart rages with the past. I look to my left; I look to my right, ahead and behind not sure where to go. Like a lost puppy trying to find my way home. My heart reminds me of lost lovers and good times with friends. My mind says. Nay, nay that is the past and you must move on, like a parent telling the child to become a butterfly from the caterpillar. Though I wonder is this but a dream or reality. As I feel like an Angel as I battle demons in my soul and in my mind. What's the point of living when things going so well turn so bad, like a philosopher trying to define the meaning of life or am I child wondering what it wants to be in life. I start to take a step, my heart screams. Stop fool! Are you sure that is where you want to go. Think of what is, what will be. Don't be a fool turn back; turn back before it is too late. My mind yells this time. Nay! Nay! Be strong and you will over come young one. The path least taken is the most arduous of all. Don't let your emotions over take you, no matter when or where. Let you emotions be part of you but not your guiding force, when take that path from cub to wolf. Tell those that love you, you love them but you must move on and chose your own path. Something catches my eye as I listen to the wisdom before me. I stand longer at the cross roads but in the woods. A silver wolf runs before me and I follow into the darkness. I find my self in a circle of wolves. One speaks the one I followed. You are Silver Fang born from mother wolf, you chose your own destiny and that is why you are here. I wonder did I really choose. My heart screams out. No go back something is wrong my mind interrupts my heart. Listen and you will be given the answer to you question. Though it is not obvious at first, nothing is, like nothing is coincidence but it is inevitable. We are conditioned to see what we see, not what is really there in front of us. So listen to what is before you cub. I snap back to what the silver wolf is saying. You destined to lead and not follow for you have choice in path to take. Though like any cub when you follow the path that is laid out for you are content with what is but do not realize the greater things in life like your destiny Then I wake in my home, realizing that one must move on. For those that love me I will always love you and one is lucky to have faith and people in their life.

passing glory

"The souls of many wail in protest of untold injustices brought upon them. Baal delighted in the creation of their injustices wondering who would stop him, being the god of death, murder and brutality. He realized that his death was soon upon him. Baal decided to create children to take his place, he searched for the male and female mortals to create his progeny." So writes sage Azreal.
A bell tolls in the realm of Morning Star Kingdom, signaling the changing of the guard across the land. The guards at the outpost Skull Hill hear the bell and prepare for when their replacements will come and get them. Sgt. Donavin sees a glimmer in the tree line. He looks to his second in command barking out orders to fire the spotting flares. The flares are launched, as they erupt exposing an army creeping towards the outpost. He screams in shock. "Alarm! Sound the alarm now! We are under attack!" A guard hearing the order runs into a room grabbing a horn. He blows the horn. The alarm cries out in the realm alerting the kingdom of impending trouble as a dark figure curses under his breath. "Can't you soldiers do anything right? Trolls you will charge now! You hear me?"
The trolls line up as they charge the outpost. They charge with blood lust in their eyes. Horns are heard coming from the outposts as flares erupt along the countryside. The flares erupt, they light the sky like a new sun, as a vast army is exposed surrounding the outer sanctum of the Morning Star kingdom. Sgt. Donavin recognized the charging trolls as he ordered his Archer Master to fire flaming arrows at them.
Now let me tell you this kingdom was no push over, they had been in a countless number of wars. They had only lost one war except they were lucky, for the king of Dark keep saved them 500 years ago on this exact day. The king of Morning Star realm is his grandson. The Morning Star kingdom is considered the capital of precious metals and gems. It is also the haven for merchants and do-gooders. No city is without corruption.
At the Morning Star castle Drakar Malkov Capt. of the King's Own Regiment, paces the battle room floor as two other knights accompanied him. "Where is prince Alric he should have been back from hunting? The enemy has probably tried to capture or kill him. Luckily, Darick Silver accompanies him. Aalon and Carl I need your service." "Yes my lord." The knights reply in unison. "Both of you will take ten of our finest warriors including Paladins. Take these men to find the prince in the forest of Skulls. A runner has arrived at the castle telling me that our kingdom is under siege. The enemy is still trying to get past the outer sanctum. Prince Alric has not come back from the forest of Skulls."
" What about the king sire where is he?" Aalon asks. "The king is missing! There is a traitor in our midst. and I will find him. You must find the prince and protect him at all costs, if the enemy makes it to the inner sanctum. Prince Alric will have to get help from our allies and bring an army back to help us stop the invasion." Aalon and Carl set out with the chosen men to find the prince in the forest of skulls.
In the forest of Skulls, royal Advisor Darick Silver accompanies Alric Brightblade; they were in the middle of stalking a big buck. They heard the alarm from Skull Hill and flares began to light the night sky. The sky began to go dark as black clouds covered the forest. The trees in front of them began to fly into the air hurled by an unseen creature. The ground shook like whales in heat. A shape could be seen coming towards the two knights. Alric and Darick drew their swords preparing for to defend themselves. The air got colder as the shape got closer, the night went pitch black as the ground stopped shaking. Alric and Darick could not see a thing, as Darick began to move his hands and chant, light radiated from him driving back the darkness.
"Aaarg you have spotted me mortal, I know who you mortals are!
I was supposed to feast on your soul and bring your head to your brother. I have other plans that will benefit me." "Demon how dare you speak about my brother like that. Demon I will send your dark soul back to hell and take your head as a trophy." Alric started to charge the demon. "Stop Alric think deeply, ha he ha he ha he, for you are so naïve and quick to trust others. Your brother has always been jealous of you. It started the day when you destroyed the demon spawn of Mazerkule, and rescued Princess Christina. Think deeply young Paladin about your brother's actions, his adultery, and gambling. Remember His betrayals and thefts that he has performed. Ha, ha for you have been tricked by your brother, for as we speak my father Thikor and his army invade your puny city."
In the inner sanctum of the Morning Star Kingdom, the twilight was beautiful as if it was on fire with flares of many colors dashing threw the ether. The smell of fine feast and hot drinks drifted out of the inns and taverns into the odorous air striking travelers like a blinding fog making them want to come in and sit down for a feast and a cozy room to heal the pain of a days travel. A minder is awoken from his sleep by loud yelling and screams for aid. He looks out the window of the Minder station and he sees five Hobgoblins in war-gear coming out of the culvert. People are running around fleeing the monsters, screaming for help. The minder knows his duty as he grabs his sword and shield, stepping onto the street. The minder shouts at the citizens of the city to get indoors to safety, and to sound the alarm for the city is being invaded.
The hobgoblins turn toward the minder shouting in unison preparing to feast on his carrion. "Big mistake human! Big mistake! Now you will pay with your life!" A large hob swings his mighty battle-axe at the minder's sternum. The can smell the foul sweat dripping off their deformed bodies as they surround him. In three heartbeats they realize it is too late the minder moves quickly taking down the smallest hob, his blade swings threw the air singing as it lops off the head of the small hob.
The small hobgoblin's head rolls down his arm a look of shock is locked in the dead hobs eyes. Blood splatters over the fighters as another hobgoblin is sliced in half. Blood slowly flows from the beheaded hobgoblin down the street around their feet. The biggest hob screams "You killed Gorona and Itick! They were my brothers! I Thylu will avenge their deaths! You die now!" His words were laced with fiery hatred sent to burn Minder Lt. McCale for his deed. "Oh really! That's nice! You will join your brothers in hell demon spawn ha, ha, ha, he, he." Lt. McCale replies as he returns Thylu's warm gratitude with his cold silver sword. He thrusts the sword into the chest of Thylu, out his back. Thylu's warm black blood washes over the minder's sword down his arm warming him on this cold night.
The people have fled to the safety of their homes. Now it was just Lt. McCale and the hobgoblins. An arrow hits the minder in the back as the lifeless body of Thylu slides off the silver sword crumpling to the ground with a thud. The body of Lt. McCale jerks forward from the impact of the arrow. A hobgoblin sees his chance to strike the human as he cracks his black mace in the chest of the human. The sound of cracking of bone and metal could be heard down the street as the mace hits Lt. McCale. The mace spikes pierce his armored flesh as his ribs break under the mighty blow. The hobgoblin withdraws his mace as the blood trickles onto the blood caked cobble stone street.
A bell starts ringing in the distance wildly, the hob that had struck the minder screams at his brethren. "Guards are coming, slay the human! Prepare to repel the guards! Where are the reinforcements? They should have been her by now?" The other hobs roar in acknowledgement of their leader's orders. A flame appears out of the air transforming into a portal. Shadows could be seen through the door as moaning and unspeakable sounds accompanied the shadows. An army marches out of the portal to hell followed by a demon of the eighth plane. In the confusion, Lt. McCale places his hand on his chest. White light engulfs the minder healing his wounds as he basks in the glory of god.
The sound of running is heard getting closer and closer to the plaza where the enemy army has invaded. The minder looks at the army and he guesses that the army is a thousand strong. The demon is heard ordering his pike and sword corps' to block the north and south entrances to the plaza. The first soldiers to hit the south entrance were caught by surprise. As the pikes were imbedded in their chests, the Orcish pike men roared victoriously as they chucked the dying guards back the way they came. A guard Capt. yelled orders to the guards storming the south entrance. As the second guard wave made their way through the northern entrance to the plaza. "Archers form ranks and prepare to fire arrows at the invaders. Infantry prepare to charge spear men follow second, and clerics to the wounded now."
The archers lined up in two columns drawing their arrows, as the infantry lowered their helms and unsheathed their swords. Drummers took up the beat as the infantry started marching towards the southern blockade. The spearmen fell in behind the infantry. The commander's voice could be heard calling for a Dwarven Gunner fire team. "Dwarven Gunners forward now! Fall in for fire support immediately. Gunners where are you?" The archers set their arrows in the notches, and drawback their bowstrings. The archers were ready to let loose their fury in a tide of arrows to wash away the invaders. The order is given to fire. The arrows fly at their targets humming as if they were an angry swarm of hornets. The night went pitch black from the onslaught of arrows. The soldiers fighting this grisly battle could only hear the screams of others being hit by the arrows. The screams were so horrid that fear rocked the inner core of the most stalwart warrior. Light crept back like a cautious child that could not stand the curiosity of knowing the unknown. The monsters began to break ranks as they saw the lifeless bodies of their fallen comrades.
The moon shined brightly as the Morning star infantry charged bravely down the field of battle. The Silver Sword brigade led the way as Morning Pike brigade followed them. Morning Pike brigade hit the south entrance hard as they imbedded their pikes in the enemy infantry. The invader ranks were being routed one by one, as a general looked at another general saying. "What pathetic soldiers these invaders are, no discipline. This should be over quickly." "John I would not be so cocky! You should tell your men not to follow the retreating enemy. It might be a ruse." "Really Mike you think that these barbarians are that smart?" As the generals talked the invading, infantry were drawing the guards into an ambush. Lt. McCale recognized the enemy maneuver, though it was too late.
The demon Thikor smiled for his plan was working as he had planned.
He ordered his elite infantry to move in and destroy the Morning Star guard. "Sephires forward, when the guard get here, you will destroy them." Thikor sees Lt. McCale cut his way through the demon guard. The mortal made his way towards Thikor. " What? The mortal is still alive! Do I have to do every thing my self?" Thikor pointed at McCale as he fired an evil spell. Lt. McCale ducked behind his shield as dark magic engulfed the shield. Lt. McCale prayed for Helms might, to aid in his battle against the demon.
The guards realized the fake rout in disbelief as a demon horde could be seen making their way towards the Morning Star army. Paladins yelled to their brothers-in-arms to have courage. For Helm would guide them to victory. The Sephire demons smiled as they cut through the mortal army like unrepentant loggers clearing a forest. Their blades whirred through the air singing a deadly song of death. Heads fell to the ground as helmets clanged against the cobbled streets. The Paladins glowed with the might of Helm as they fought a valiant struggle against evil. With but a word some of the Paladins turned the demon bodies into ashes as they banished the evil souls to hell.
The north entrance was now cleared as the secondary guard army made their way towards the portal. Thikor yells at Lt. McCale. " I will feast on your soul Paladin! You dare think that you can slay me?" "Yes Thikor I will send your vile soul back to hell! Your heart and head will be my trophies!" Thikor charged at Lt. McCale in anger. He reaches the Paladin in two strides. Thikor swung his mighty battleaxe at the Paladin as Lt. McCale deflects the axe with his sword. Lt. McCale stabs his sword into Thikor's soft belly. Thikor howls in pain as the holy sword bites his dark soul inflicting unimaginable pain. Thikor draws a sword with his free hand and he stabs Lt. McCale in the chest. Thikor grins as he withdraws his blade from Lt. McCale. In reaction to Thikor's desperate attack the wounded McCale quickly cuts off Thikor's head. Thikor's lifeless body falls to the ground with a resounding thud.
McCale bends down to cut out the demons heart. Thikor's head begins to wail in protest. "No! Paladin I beg of you do not cut out my heart! I will do anything you ask. "Enough Thikor you will not trick me, like you did to my father." Lt. McCale replies in anger to the demons protest. "No! Curse you mortal!" McCale drives his short sword into the chest of the demon. The demons chest explodes in a tidal wave of black blood knocking the Paladin off of his feet.
In the forest of Skulls Alric and Darick are dealing with another demon. " So Alric do you understand what I am talking about? Does this realization of the facts wash over you like a wave? Now also realize that it is not in my best interest to kill you! I will leave you now." The demon disappears through a flaming gate to hell. Alric and Darick now stand alone in the forest, their faces blank in bewilderment. Alric looks at Darick and tells him that they must get back to the city quickly. The demon's words weigh heavily on the mind of Alric.
Back at the city the portal closes as the soul of Thikor was heard screaming as it fled through the portal to safety. The remaining Morning Star guards crushed the demon resistance with the help of Lt. McCale and his Paladins. The remaining monsters surrendered quickly, realizing that their fate was doomed if they did not. The clerics walked the streets searching for soldiers that were still alive. As they walked blood flowed down the plaza street like a sweet but sad babbling brook. A reminder of war after the glory has been washed away by the blood of youth. How in a day we could lose the ones that we have loved and cherished for years.
